Cart recommendations

Cart recommendations are upsells that are not specific to a product or collection and typically rendered are rendered to all customers. The products can be manually selected, sourced from specific collections, powered by Shopify AI or third party integrations.

At a bare minimum, you should have this component on your checkout to increase your average order value. Without it, you are leaving money on the table.

if you're not sure about what type of products to display, take a look below for some recommendations:

  • Best sellers: Display your best selling products to customers that are likely to be interested in them.
  • Related products: Display products that are related to the product in the cart, via Shopify AI or third party integrations.
  • Discounted products: Display products that are on sale or marked for clearance via collections.
  • High margin goods: Manually select high margin goods that are likely to be of interest to your customers.
  • Market specific products: Display products that are popular in specific markets via collections.
  • Seasonal products: Display products that are popular during specific seasons via collections.
  • New products: Display new products that have recently been added to your store via collections.

Free shipping

When used correctly, the free shipping upsell can be a powerful tool to increase revenue and customer satisfaction. We see free shipping upsell components perform at their best, when they are conditionaly rendered via Display Rules to specific customers.

I.e if your stores free shipping threshold is $100, only show the free shipping upsells to customers that have a cart value greater than $50, but less than $99. This means that customers that have already met the free shipping threshold are not shown the upsell, and customers that are close to the threshold are encouraged to spend more to get free shipping.

It's important to note, that your store may have many Markets with different free shipping thresholds. You can use Market rendering to conditionaly render the free shipping upsell to customers in specific markets.

Tip: We see the best results when free shipping upsells are displayed on the free shipping step of checkout.

Gift wrapping / Shipping protection

Gift wrapping and shipping protection upsells are typically used to offer customers the option to add a service to their order. The Checkbox Upsell component is the best choice for these types of upsells.
